Meet Your Guide
LOCAL ROOTS.
A LIFE ON THE RIVER.
I'm Chris Wright. The McKenzie isn't just where I guide—it's home.
I grew up in this area and have spent a lifetime fishing these waters. Today, guiding is one part of a life that's still deeply connected to the McKenzie River community.
More Than a Guide Service
Part of the McKenzie community.
My wife Michelle and I have owned McKenzie Feed & Tackle in Walterville since 2010. Between the tackle shop and years spent guiding, I've had the chance to help a lot of people enjoy the river—some experienced anglers, and plenty who were holding a fishing rod for the first time.
I'm also an elder at Northwood Christian Church and, most importantly, a proud husband and father to our daughters, Sterling and McKenzie. Yes, we really did name her McKenzie. We figured we could pull it off.
Those parts of my life all shape the kind of guide I try to be: welcoming, patient, straightforward and focused on giving people a day they'll be glad they spent together.
How I Guide
You don't need to know what you're doing.
That's my job. I'll handle the boat, gear and river. You can fish with fly or conventional tackle, learn as much as you want, and enjoy the day at your own pace.
Why I Still Guide
A good day isn't only about the biggest fish.
I love putting people on fish, but some of the best days are the ones where somebody catches their first trout, a kid can't stop talking about the river, or a family gets a full day together without much else competing for their attention.
That's what I want McKenzie Tackle Guide Service to feel like: a great day on a beautiful river with somebody local taking care of the details.
